Satan’s Flawed Reasoning!”(Job 1:6-12).
According to Satan, Job’s righteousness was self-serving.” This is the heart of Satan’s attack on God and Job. Satan challenges the LORD’S boasting of Job’s righteousness. This is seen in his questions and suggestions to the LORD to test Job’s righteousness: “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have you not put a hedge around him…? You have blessed the works of his hands… But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
Satan’s reasoning is flawed! His line of reasoning would not have made sense if Job was a poor man.
In later days, Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and in their splendour and promised to give them all to Jesus if Jesus bowed down and worshipped him Satan(Mt.4:9) In the case of Job, who was already prosperous, he thought taking it away would make Job angry.
Job’s wealth was not given to him on a platter of gold. Job worked hard to earn everything he owned. Satan himself acknowledged this. “… You have blessed the work of his hands…”
The LORD commended Job as being blameless and upright; fearing God and shunning evil. There is no doubt that the LORD facilitated Job’s acquisition of wealth by blessing the works of his hands.
Job’s commendable character was not the result of his wealth; that was his character before he became wealthy.
The LORD was confident that riches were not the reason for Job’s righteousness. Thus, he, the LORD, accepted the testing challenge as he told Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”
My friend, some of the misfortunes that befall you are not your faults. Such misfortunes are divinely sanctioned by the LORD to prove Satan wrong. When they happen, hold on to your faith and maintain your righteousness! The LORD already knows the outcome from the beginning.
If our Lord and Saviour underwent the tempter’s snare and overcame, we too surely can! Yes, we can!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, indwell me and give me the power to resist Satan’s testing. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
