“Repent Or Perish!”(Lk.13:1-5)[20/12/2024].
After an accident where many people die, survivors go to their various churches to offer thanksgiving that God saved them. There is nothing wrong with such thanksgiving. But the theology behind such thanksgiving can make it wrong. To think that you survived such an accident because you were righteous before God already draws a conclusion that those who died in the accident were sinners. The good and the bad, the righteous and the unrighteous all die. Death does not discriminate.
A good theology of thanksgiving after surviving an accident where others died is that God has spared your life so that you should repent.
The Lord Jesus Christ is calling us all to repentance in preparation for his coming.
For example, those who have died since the anglophone war erupted in 1917 were not worse sinners than those of us who have cheated death. “I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
Weekend prayer: LORD, thank you for giving us the opportunity to repent. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you! Merry Christmas!
