“Remain True To The Lord With All Your Heart!”
Interestingly the early spread of the gospel was not even by the designated twelve. After the stoning of Stephen “a great persecution broke out against the Church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria” (Acts8:1).
As the scattered traveled far and wide they were spreading the message; primarily to Jews. These early Christian Jews were still biased towards Jewish exclusivism. And it appears Jesus himself was not exempted; unless it is the gospel writers who were biased. When Jesus sent out the twelve he told them not to “go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans,” but rather to go “to the lost sheep of Israel” (Mtt.10:5-6). Again when a Syrophoenician woman begged him to drive out the demons in her daughter Jesus told her, “First let the children eat all they want, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” He only gave in because of the woman’s insistence when she replied, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs”(Mk. 7:24-30). One of my teachers explained this discrimination by saying that Israel is like the handle of a basket (the world). One holds the handle to lift the basket.
As those running from the persecution spread the word of God some started telling the goodnews about Jesus to Greeks also.
We are told “the Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.”
Dear friend, you too can be a bearer of the goodnews about Jesus Christ, be you in exile, a refugee or an internally displaced person running away from persecution. The “Organized Centre” only comes in when souls have been won by sending someone to encourage the new converts to “remain true to the Lord with all their hearts” (Acts 11:19-24).
My friend, your assignment: Without discrimination tell somebody of the goodnews about Jesus Christ today. Be the Bible that somebody may read today and re/turn to the Lord! Surely the Lord’s hand is with you!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit enable me under any circumstance to spread the goodnews of Jesus Christ without discrimination. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
