“Read The Bible And Allow It To Read You As Well!”
We are instructed, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Prov.22:6). Paul reminds Timothy, “…continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
Timothy first learned from his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice (II Tim.1:5), and possibly from Paul as well. This is to say the Christian teachings from parents are as crucial to their faith as much as what is received from religious intructors and spiritual leaders.
We become convinced of what we have learned because we know from whom we learned it. All these to make us wise for salvation in Christ Jesus.
However, knowledge of the Holy Scriptures is not only for the purpose of salvation alone. Scripture is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (II Tim.3:14-17).
We have to immerse ourselves in the regular study of the word of God so that it should serve as a teaching manual. It should be our guide for rebuking. It should be a yardstick for correction, and above all a manual for training in righteousness which equips us for every good work.
May we find a least time each day to read, learn, teach and train with the word of God. To borrow from an East African woman, as we read the word of God, let us allow that same word of God to read us.
Prayer: Lord help me grow and live in your word so as to be equipped for every good work. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
