“Purify Yourselves…!”(Jos. 3:5-11).
The drought was so severe and the villagers felt that only rain could water the land and bring some freshness on both people and the land. The majority were Christians. They agreed to gather on the village plaza to pray for rain. On that day the turnout was massive. They prayed and prayed. The rain clouds gathered and suddenly the rain poured down as if the second flood was about to happen. There was no place to take shelter because there were no houses near the plaza.
All the people were soaked to the marrow; except one boy who had come to the prayer ground with his umbrella. Of all the prayer warriors who gathered on that day to pray for rain, only that boy believed that God will answer their prayer.
Some times we complain that our prayers are not answered. If we are not in the right frame of mine we should not expect any response from God. And if we are convinced that God will do what we are asking of him, then we must prepare for his response.
Before appearing before a high personality we dress properly, rehearse our speech and in his presence we comport ourselves to the best of our abilities. How much more should we be spiritually prepared to receive the miraculous from the LORD!
The exodus children of God felt helpless as they faced a bridgeless Jordan. Joshua told them, “Purify yourselves, because tomorrow the LORD will perform miracles among you.”
Two things we note from this. Firstly, we have to purify ourselves before expecting from the LORD. Secondly, there are some things that the LORD intends to do only tomorrow. This is important because some times – if not most times – we try to rush God. God does not work on our agendas!
We should learn to wait on God’s time – which of course is not a license for slot! Importantly we should always purify ourselves as we approach his throne of grace.
Weekend prayer: LORD, we know you will make a way for us where there seems to be no way in Jesus’ name. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
