“Advent Journey Day XVIII.”
“Prophetic Praise!”(Lk.1:67-80).
When John was born his father was filled with the Holy Spirit and he prophesied in song that the LORD had visited and redeemed his people just as he had promised to Abraham.
John was the beginning of the fulfilment of the promise. He was a prophet of the Most High going before the Lord to prepare his way.
Zechariah and Elizabeth did not live to see that day; considering that they were old by the time he was born. Besides, John lived in the desert until he appeared publicly to Israel.
If we are to go by the life of John, we realize that grooming for the ministry is not an easy feat. It takes a lifetime of preparation before we become what we become. There must be a time of growing up and being strong in spirit.
The story of redemption does not begin and end with Jesus alone. It is an all-inclusive story beginning with the promise to Abraham down through his progenies, spiced with reminders from prophets down to John the Baptist.
And the chain continues from the apostles down to our generation.
Salvation story would be buried and forgotten without the generations of messengers who continue to retell the story, reminding their generations about who we are, where we came from and whither we are going to. The messengers were there, they are there and will always be there to give God’s people knowledge of his salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.
May we rejoice with Zechariah for the “rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
Prayer: Holy Spirit help us to grow up strong in spirit for the service of humanity. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
