“Pray For Yourself And Pray For The Lord’s Chosen…!”
There is no other way to get connected to God than through prayer. Prayer has been translated into our mother tongues as “greeting God.” Greeting can be ordinary, like when people meet on the way or when you see somebody doing some work or carrying a load. A greeting can be planned as when you decide to go visit somebody accompanied with a gift. It can be a response to a favour done to you or a gift given to you. Routine greetings include morning, noon, evening and night greetings.
Prayer therefore has no fixed time or reasons. To the African prayer is spontaneous. This may explain why it is said that the African is a prayerful being.
Jesus never failed to pray for himself and to intercede for others. As he neared the completion of his earthly work he prayed for his Father to glorify him again so he could get back the glory he left in heaven when he came down to earth to do his Father’s will.
His mission was to give eternal life to those the Father had given him. Eternal life is not just to live forever hereafter. Eternal life is that we may know “the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent…”
Jesus also prayed for us whom God has given to him. About us he tells the Father, “…I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me”(Jn.17:1-8).
My friend, how often do you pray? Why? When? How? For who and for what? Have you accepted the words Jesus has given you? Hang to every word of the Lord with certainty and pray for yourself and others.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit ignite my zeal in praying for myself and for those that the Father has chosen. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
