“Pentecostal Power, Fall On Me…!”
The spate of protest across States in the US because of the murder of George Floyd only reveal how people live under cruel systems and pretend that it doesn’t exist. Or accepting that it exists but living it with resignation as if to say, “What can we do?”
Black colour has suffered a lot in pain and hardship across the world. It is seemingly getting worse now than in the days of segregation in the United States and apartheid in South Africa.
It needed the murder of an innocent person for the world to come out of their comfort zones to decry a long time deep-seated resident evil.
Some two thousand plus years ago Peter had to remind men of Israel how they connived with wicked men to put Jesus to death by nailing him to a cross. They thought they were executing their own plans but Peter reminded them it was “by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge.”
If it is true that police of one State knelt in apology to a protesting crowd then it is happening in the same way that even though Peter indicted the men of Israel, “they were cut to the heart and said to Peter…”Brothers, what shall we do?”
This question and it’s response led to the beginning of a new world order.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the Holy Spirit.”
This was not to end there. It extends to us as Peter continued, “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
We are told that “with many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation'” (Acts 2:22-42).
We may have received the Holy Spirit and are empowered to call people to repentance. But from the look of things “the called” have become lukewarm and like David of old we should be asking God not to take away his Holy Spirit from us but rather to create clean and pure hearts within us. Hearts free of vendetta but filled with love for humanity irrespective of affiliation, creed, colour and race!
When Peter, filled with power from the Holy Spirit preached that first sermon on Pentecost about three thousand people were converted. What a revolution! Let us pray for Pentecostal grace to fall on us so that we can preach that old time religion and win souls for the kingdom of God.
Prayer of the week: Lord let your pentecostal power renew and embolden us to unflinchingly speak truth to any domination system. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
