“Our Prayer Request!”(II Thes.3:1-5).
From our Morning Meditation Facebook pages and WhatsApp fora we receive many prayer requests. Sometimes the requests are vague until we must ask for the prayer topics. Just praying for somebody is normal, but sometimes the specifics are important.
In concluding his first letter to the Thessalonians Paul requested them, “Brothers, pray for us”(5:25), but in the second letter he specifies the prayer topic: “Finally, brothers, pray for us so that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people…”
As we round up the week, we remind ourselves that the centrality of the week’s meditations have been that we need each other to grow in the faith by enhancing the growth of the gospel in terms of numerical increase and spiritual depth of the brethren.
We are not going to be saved alone! Our zeal must be to bring others into the fold and to enhance the spiritual growth of those who are already in.
While the evangelists are busy preaching, the care givers must be busy ensuring for their needs and the intercessors should be focused as they intercede for us all.
Within the fold and out of the fold the enemies of the gospel are there. We need the prayers of the saints to be delivered from them.
These are words that bring succour to those we have evangelized and who are dear to us: “We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.”
We can only be one another’s keeper if our hearts are directed into God’s love so that our care for the needs of others would be in the same way that God provides for our needs. And our patience can stand the test of time only if we adopt and adapt to the perserveing spirit of Christ our Saviour. Let us therefore spread the good news as we live the good news by being one another’s keeper!
Weekend prayer: Lord, direct our hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance that we may live the good news in prayer and action. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
