“Our God Is All Embracing!”
Jesus emphasises, “I will not cast out anyone who comes to me.” With the use of a parable Jesus says the kingdom of God “is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that birds of the air can perch in its shade”(Mk.4:30-32).
We can understand this at two levels.
The first level is that the church as the visible kingdom of God accommodates all who are brought into the church. But there is the duty which is often neglected. We do not seek to know why they are there. It is only when we know why they are there that we engage in teaching them sound doctrine.
My homiletic teacher used to tell us that sound teaching brings healing. When that happens people will remain rooted in Christ Jesus where they are. They will not be running up and down in search of the miraculous.
The second level is individual. The day you became a member of the fellowship of Christ through baptism is not yet conversion. Conversion is turning towards something. And in the case of Christian conversion it is about turning towards Christ.
Conversion is a process. We know when it begins, but there are many things in each life which must all be turned to Christ! The more everything is turned to Christ the larger Christ becomes for you accommodating all good things as the evil things are being eliminated.
The problem is we remain stagnant on one spot; rejoicing about the ever increasing number, while paying little attention to the nuturing (teaching) which brings healing and growrh in Jesus Christ.
As Christ expands in the life of the individuals within the community of faith, so too love becomes very visible among members which is the testimony of God’s presence. God is love and we know him when we express love for each other and do everything with love, care and concern for others!
Prayer: Holy Spirit enable me to grow daily in the things of God as Christ expands in my life daily through loving actions for others. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
