“Obey God And Not Man!”
My people rightly say if you hate somebody so much when you search for him and do not find him you’ll beat his dog. Again they say “when you throw somebody on the ground better get off his body.” Yes, you do not have to sit on him until he can’t breathe.
Those who killed Jesus were not satisfied that they had accomplished their mission. The presence of the apostles and their preachings and healing miracles posed a threat to those heartless murderers who constituted the Sanhedrin. These religious authorities were “greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.” It was worst because “many who heard the message believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand.”
Under the pretext that Peter and John had healed a born crippled beggar at the temple gate, these “Jesus haters” in religious garbs arrested them and brought them before the Sanhedrin.
Filled with Pentecostal power Peter spoke truth to power: “Rulers and elders…if we are being called today to account for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, then know this…: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead…Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
The courage of these “unschooled, ordinary men” astonished the Council.
For fear of the reaction of the people who were believing in the apostles, “they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.”
The reply of Peter and John stands the test of time for any true disciple of the Lord. They replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:5-22).
My friend, our loyalty is to God and not to men because it is not right in God’s sight to obey men rather than God! It does not matter what they do to us. They can kill the flesh but only God has power over our souls. Whatever the persecution you face from the enemies of the gospel, speak truth to power that salvation is found in no-one else but Jesus and that the Holy Spirit power is burning in you to obey God and not man!
Prayer: Holy Spirit give me the courage under any kind of persecution to obey Christ rather than succumb to men. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
