“O LORD, Save Your People…!”(Jer.31:2-7).
In what Aljazeera calls “‘Chilling’ evidence,” South Africa paints a gruesomely frightening picture in her presentation of a genocide case against Israel to the International Court of Justice.
If only half of that presentation is truly happening in Gaza, then the name “Israel” and any name attached to, or related to it should be anathema! I’m wondering if at all there are any Palestinian Christians, they can gladly say, “This is the word of the LORD to this:
“The people who survive the sword will find favour in the desert. I will come to give rest to Israel.” These are words of restoration pronounced on the exiles. Apart from the promise of hope the people are reminded of a past when God told them, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt…”
Because there is hope of a brighter future the LORD says; “Sing with joy for Jacob; shout for the foremost of the nations. Make your praises heard and say, ‘O LORD, save your people, the remnant of Israel.'”
Within the present context this text of a future restoration will speak well and give hope to Palestinians and not to the Israelites.
Therefore, Palestinians can agree that this is the word of the LORD if the name Israel and Jacob are removed from the text and replaced with Palestine and Ishmael (maybe).
And to think that the world watches with nonchalance as the Genocide Convention is blatantly being violated on such high scale! Then one day we would raise a memorial on a piece of land somewhere in Gaza in memory of all the dead – including thousands of innocent children!
As if I’ve removed the log from my eyes so as to see clearly the speck on my brother’s eye. Mayhem right at our backdoor as there are dead bodies in bedlam everyday; to the extent that a pregnant woman is recently shot dead because a uniform officer wanted to shoot a driver for not giving bribe.
All oppressed and disenfranchised remnants all over the world long for that day the LORD will come to give rest to them. We are all ready to sing the LORD’S praise and say, “O LORD, save your people, the remnants of…” the oppressed, suppressed, marginalized, disenfranchised, the homeless and nonentities. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
