“No Other God But Yahweh!”(Gen.1:1-5,26-27&31).
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. 26-27.Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground…’ So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them…31. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”
This week, we are going to explore and discover the awesomeness of God. Such discovery should humble us and open our eyes to realise how we are nothing without him.
We note the following from today’s pericope:

  1. Our God is without beginning because according to the story of creation, God was there before the beginning. (We are very much aware of the much popularised “Big Bang theory” of creation. The Big Bang theory of creation is just a grain of sand in a heap; there are numerous stories of creation around the world; some of which are older than the Genesis creation story).
  2. Creation was out of chaos and nothingness. (Creatio ex nihilo).
  3. God ensured orderliness as he separated light from darkness, day from night. All these happened on the first day of creation.
  4. God created humankind saddled with the responsibility of stewardship – rule over the other creatures.
  5. Humankind was created in God’s image.
  6. On the sixth day ,“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.”
So what happened? What has gone wrong? We can simply say, Freewill led to irresponsibility as those created in the image of God chose to listen to the voice of a stranger!
It is easy to take for granted what has been offered freely and to minimise or downplay our benefactor.
Stewardship means accountability! A steward is a caretaker over what does not belong to him. He has to handle with care and with the readiness to give an account to the owner.
Sadly, we exploit, mismanage, and flaunt what is under our care as if they belong to us!
My friend, you are not the owner of what you are struggling for. It may not be passed over to your descendants as you think. Truth of the matter is you do not know the next owner of what you are steessing yourself for or killing others for!
Be humble before the LORD. God saw that all he had made was very good. In your stewardship, make every effort to see that it remains that way – VERY GOOD!”
Prayer of the day and week: Awesome God, make me an instrument of fulfilment of your desire for your creation. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week! Peace be with you!
