“May Your Marital Status Not Derail Your Devotion To The Lord!”
Paul like Jesus were not married and both of them gave reasons why a celibate life may be a better option to serve God.
Both of them also affirmed that marriage is a sacred institution which must be upheld with sincerity, fidelity and truth by both partners.
That notwithstanding, Paul leaned more on an unmarried state. According to Paul a married believer has divided loyalty to God and to spouse. As such it is difficult for such a person to be devoted to the Lord.
As long as the husband is alive, “a woman is bound to her husband.” At the death of her husband “she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord. “
Again to show where he leans, Paul adds, “In my judgment, she is happier if she stays as she is – and I think that I too have the Spirit of God “(I Cor.7:32-40).
Paul may have a good point here. In my village let’s say the widow of Ndansi later marries Mr. Ndifon; she is hardly addressed as Mrs Ndifon. She is mostly addressed as the widow of Ndansi who got married to Ndifon.
Our society should learn to take away such stigma on the widow, especially the crude widowhood rite she is subjected to, whereby a widower experiences nothing of such!
Married or single, those who have chosen to serve the Lord must give the required amount of time to serve God such that they can manage both spouse and home without conflict.
Like paul, I think that I too have the Spirit of the Lord to sound my opinion on this!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help us to make the right marital decision that won’t infringe upon our devotion to the Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
