“Make A Pledge Of Obedience To The Lord!”
Moses, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders were asked by God to come up to him. The others were to worship him at a distance while Moses alone was to approach the Lord.
The purpose of this call was to confirm the covenant between God and Israel.
Let us focus on the people’s response when Moses told them “all the Lord’s words and laws:” The people “responded with one voice, ‘Everything the Lord has said we would do.'”
Again, Moses “took the Book of the Covenant and read to the people. They responded, ‘We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey”(Ex.24:1-11).
The Book of the Covenant are stipulations consisting largely of expansions on and expositions of the Ten Commandments (Read Ex.20:22-23:19).
Like we said earlier, the basic requirement on our part to ensure the perpetuity of the covenant is to stand by these words and act on them: “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.”
The people celebrated the sealing of the covenant with a “Covenant meal” foreshadowing the Lord’s Supper, which celebrates the New Covenant sealed by the death of Christ.
We are beneficiaries of this New Covenant because of God’s abundant grace. However, grace is not a licence for disobedience. Obedience to the word of God keeps us in tandem with God because it links us with divine realities.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me to do everything the Lord has said and to obey him. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
