“Made New In The Attitude Of Your Mind'(Eph.4:17-24).
In the futility of his thinking the fool says in his heart, “there is no God..” This is an unpardonable ignorance caused by the hardening of one’s heart.
I may have gained a handful of theological insights from the late Australian theologian Prof. Allison Howell. (May her gentle soul rest in peace in the bosom of the LORD). I discovered myself through her. Howell taught us that the main worry of a new convert evolves around the question, “Now that I am a believer what must I now do differently from what I used to do?” Conversely “Now that I am a believer, what must I no longer do?” It is an old question long answered in the scriptures. What is new is how Howell calls it: “The key to conduct question” and which is uppermost to any of us when we first believed.
Paul provided the answer to the key to conduct questions several times. To the Ephesians he writes: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by it’s deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
We have often argued about being in the image of God in terms of physical appearance and pigmentation. God did not create himself from dust like he created humans. Created to be like God is more about the mind. The mind is that which thinks, feels, perceives, imagines, remembers, and wills. It covers the totality of mental phenomena, including both conscious processes …”
My friend, before you say, “I have made up my mind,” you should seek the Holy Spirit to know if that mind you are making up is Christ-centered. If the response is in the affirmative, you are putting on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, help us daily to put off our old selves and be made new in the attitude of our minds. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
