“Lord Thank You For Being Merciful To Us!”
Sodom and Gomorrah lacked ten righteous people so that they could be spared destruction. There were just six who had a chance of being saved. They were Lot, his wife, his two daughters and his sons-in-law.
It is not as if any of them stood perfect before God. Their salvation was to be by the mercy of God. When Lot told his sons-in-law that there was no time to lose, they thought he was joking. So they perished with the entire community.
Lot himself hesitated when he was supposed to be in haste. God displayed his mercy as the angels had to take Lot, his wife and two children by the hand and led them to safety.
Again God’s mercy was displayed when Lot pleaded to be allowed to run to the nearest town instead of to the mountain where he couldn’t have arrived on time.
Despite God’s richness in mercy, when such mercy is abused the consequences are detrimental. The angels gave firm instructions that Lot and family should not look back. Lot’s wife looked back and was transformed into a pillar of salt (Gen. 19:12-28).
Some gainful lessons: It is never by righteousness that we can gain salvation. God’s grace is sufficient for us to be saved. We shouldn’t regard as joke issues of grave importance like Lot’s sons-in-law did.
It is important to let go of what lies behind and focus on what God has planned for the future. Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt because her interest was on what she was leaving behind; probably because she had no confidence of an unknown future.
God alone holds the future in his hands and if he leads it is prudent to follow without doubting. Lastly we are clay in the potter’s hands. We are not in any position to question his justice in the object he decides to mould of any lump of clay. We cannot question why he decides to erase Sodom and Gomorrah and their inhabitants, while on the other hand he decides to allow the weeds to grow alongside the wheat until harvest time.
Nevertheless, we must make an effort to obey the Lord even where his mercies abound!
Prayer of the week: Heavenly Father thank you that in your mercy you hold my hand to a place of safety. Amen!
Welcome to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
