“Lord, Let It Be As You Want It!”
When dark clouds begin to gather we know that it may likely rain. Yesterday Palm Sunday marked the beginning of Holy Week in which the passion of Jesus begins. The passion lessons for this year is from the gospel of Matthew. Each new day the passion story is usually long. Today we read 26:1-30.
The story opens with Jesus telling his disciples, “As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed ovet to be crucified.”
True to what he said, the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of Caiaphas the high priest and plotted “to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him…”
Isn’t it strange when we look at the calibre of persons and place of meeting where the plan was hatched to arrest and kill Jesus! David Yallop’s book “In God’s Name” was not the first time men of God made plans to kill another man of God. Jesus was himself a victim of such evil perpetuated “in God’s name!”
Some years back Smaila Bobga sang that “in this world, the person way dey kill you na yi be your best friend…” That’s how it was with Jesus. Your enemy cannot get to you except he passes through your own so-called close friends.
The job of the coup plotters was made easy when Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests and asked what they were willing to give him if he handed Jesus over to them? When the bargain was sealed, Judas was now watching for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them.
Jesus knew all these things but he still celebrated the meal with the twelve without eliminating Judas. Jesus knew his destiny was in God’s hands and both Judas and the coup plotters were just executing God’s will though they were ignorant of it.
Our own Teke Elizabeth sings, “my destiny dey for God yi hand…” My friend, like Jesus play the dumb fool when enemies are acting out God’s will for your life thinking they are doing it for God! You will always have people who hate you with a passion and claim they are doing it for God. Fix your eyes on Jesus who saw it coming but accepted to play along!
God has your future, whatever that future is! Submit yourself to his will.
Prayer: Holy Spirit when I face hard times encourage me to withstand it by learning from Jesus. Amen!
Have a blessed day. Stay home, stay safe! Peace be with you!
