“Lord Jesus Christ My Hope Is In You!”
During his earthly ministry when Jesus healed the sick he warned them not to tell who he was. According to Matthew he avoided such publicity so as to fulfill what Isaiah had spoken about him.
Jesus is the chosen of God, the one whom God loved and put his Spirit on. Jesus’ mission then – as it is now – is to proclaim justice to the nations without quarelling or crying out so that “no-one will hear his voice in the streets.”
Violence begets violence because two wrongs do not make a right. Jesus as a prince of peace and a pacesetter in nonviolence will not break a bruised reed, neither will he snuff out a smouldering reed. Not until he has led justice to victory. And “in his name the nations will put their hope” (Mtt.12:15-21).
Even today Jesus still remain the hope for the nations.
Yesterday in Bamenda, just as on other occasions I and others took shelter behind closed doors. Each staccato of gunshots sounded as if the shooters were at our door. Then suddenly an avalanche of people started streaming towards our direction because that was the only way out if you were going towards Nkwen. In all these hullabaloo and as young men walked-ran, they had their hands up as signs of armlessness. At each firing round you could hear the name of JESUS on many lips.
In the midst of all these these questions are more claimant, “Lord where are you? Given the circumstances can we still believe that the justice you proclaim are heard by the nations? Will you lead justice to victory when injustice is increasing without compunction?
Jesus you better do something for us! Instill in us the love of gentle ways. Let the enablers, the sponsors, the perpetrators and the silent majority learn from you that justice can never be gained through violence. Our comfort is that you are merely silent and your name still remain the only hope for our nation. Let the Holy Spirit convict hardened hearts so that your justice may be led to victory!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ heal us and lead justice to victory in our land through peaceful moves and not violent confrontations. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
