“Lord Jesus Christ Heal Me Of Spiritual Blindness!”
A hallmark of the Messiah as predicted by Isaiah was that he will give sight to the blind (29:18, 35:5). Each time Jesus performed a miracle of making a blind to see, he thus confirmed that he was the Messiah. Sadly enough the religious authorities of his time did not recognise this truth. Some Pharisees said he wasn’t from God because he didn’t keep the Sabbath.
It took a commoner who had no opportunity to read scriptures because he was born blind to drive home this deep theological truth to them, A man born blind received his sight from Jesus. He did not ask Jesus to heal him. He wasn’t born blind because he or his parents had sinned as was erroneously believed by Jews that sickness is the result of sin. According to Jesus the man’s blindness “happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”
After receiving his sight the man cared nothing about Jesus. All he could say of Jesus was, “the man they call Jesus…” When asked to know his whereabout he replied nonchalantly, “I don’t know.”
Even so, without knowing Jesus, when the Pharisees said they did not know where Jesus came from, the man gave this powerful testimony about Jesus: “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will…If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
This man had not only received physical sight, he had received spiritual sight as well; whereas the Pharisees were spiritually blind.
When the man finally met Jesus again and Jesus properly introduced himself to him, the man believed in Jesus and worshipped him.
My friend, when we appear before the Lord we should come like blank slates for him to fill us spiritually. We should empty ourselves of ourselves. Then Jesus will cause the scale to fall off our eyes so that we can see fully and know better. Only those who know that they do not know can receive new knowledge, but those who do not know that they do not know will continue to wallow in ignorance. To such, their guilt remains!(Jn.9:35-41).
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I believe in you, I worship you. Free me from spritual blindness. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
