“Living In The Great Mystery Of Godliness!”
The incarnation of Jesus in bodily form is the beginning of the mystery of godlinness. He appeared in a body to be born and after his resurrection he also appeared in a body. This is to say that the celebration of Christmas is not so much only about commemorating the birth of Jesus, but it is also about his resurrection and ascension.
He was vindicated by the Spirit. Angels saw him at his resurrection just like they appeared to the shepherds to announce his birth (I Tim.3:16).
Since his appearance after the resurrection he has been preached among the nations and that is why the African continent has become part of the story. The continent has embraced christianity as if to say, “this is what we had been waiting for.” Christianity is spreading across the continent by geometric proportions. It takes various forms that are sometimes hardly recognisable as Christianity both in form, content and practice.
Paul instructs Timothy on “how people ought to conduct themselves in the church of the living God which is the pillar and foundation of the truth. Ironically, church history has proven that over the years and continuing in the present the Church of God in various lands, times and climes has often lost touch as the pillar and foundation of truth.
Paul says, beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great.
Mystery is defined as something that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain. And godliness is defined as the quality of being devoutly religious.
It is not godliness which is great. The mystery is about the person of Jesus Christ who is the reason for our godliness. This is the reason for godliness. Our thoughts, words and deeds should be a reflection of the truth, love, peace and light which Christ brought into the world.
Let us get rid of the injustices around us. Let us propagate truth and not falsehoods. Let us radiate what we have received from heaven. Let there be love coming from the heart. Let there be honesty. Let there be forgiveness of one another. Let there be true penitence. Let us rid the land of bloodshed.
And let us remember that Christmas is a reminder that Jesus Christ is soon coming again as judge. Are you ready to receive him? If not, why not?
Prayer: Thank you Heavenly Father for your precious gift of love, grace and mercy to humanity. Amen!
I wish you a merry Christmas and a fulfilling new year 2020.
