“Living In Days Of Grace!”(Is.38:1-8).
Each new day is the very reason to thank the LORD for his love, goodness, mercy and compassion. Our daily prayer should include, “LORD teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”(Ps.90:12). This is so because the Lord’s discipline humbles us arrogant sinners and teaches us true wisdom.
We are also told that we have seventy years to live, with the possibility of extending to eighty years (Ps.90:10). But we have somebody who together with fifteen bonus years lived for less than seventy years.
All in all, it is not so much how old we become, what is important is the positive impact we create upon the majority before our demise. The Lord Jesus Christ died in his thirties, but he remains the name that is called and written millions of times daily.
The example of King Hezekiah teaches us that the majority of us are living in days of grace for which we must constantly be thankful that the LORD still loves us. Hezekiah became ill to the point of death. The LORD sent prophet Isaiah to tell him, “Put your house in order, because you are going to die…” Such words are not comforting at all. But the king took it in good faith and took it to the LORD in prayer.
The compassionate and gracious LORD heard his prayer and reversed the decision.“I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city…”
Hezekiah became king when he was twenty-five years old. Given that he reigned for twenty-nine years before death(II Kgs18:1-2), it means he was thirty-nine years old when he became ill. He died at fifty-four. With the additional years of grace he still did not attain the prescribed seventy.
Dear friend, our times are in God’s hands and he keeps us alive according to his plans. When sin darkens our paths, when sickness comes on us, when hard times hit us, we should not despair. Take it to the LORD in prayer.
When we think all is lost, the LORD assures us, “MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU!” “Tough times never last, but tough people do!”
Bring that despairing situation and the seemingly unsolvable problem to the LORD in prayer. He is there to answer you and change your sorrow into laughter! If you are there to pray with a penitent heart, the compassionate and gracious LORD is there to answer you in Jesus’ name!
Prayer: LORD, consider my plight, see my tears, hear my cry for help and answer me. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
