“Living A New Life Through Christ!” (Rom.5:12-14).
Some people have argued against infant baptism on the grounds that if baptism is for the cleansing of sin, then children are without sin. We do not start life with the possibility of living without sin. We begin life with a sinful nature. Every inclination of mankind’s heart is evil from childhood(Gen.8:21). The psalmist says, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me”(51:5).
What this means is that through one man, sin and death has genetically spread to all humanity. We are born in, and with “original sin.”
If our fallen nature came through one man, then our salvation had to come through one man. Adam was a pattern of the one to come; even as it is stated: “Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men”(Rom.5:18).
Jesus Christ is the manifestation of God’s grace. Grace on its part is not a licence for sin. We died to sin when Christ died and rose to new life at his resurrection. Our prayer is that we should no longer live in sin. When we are under grace sin shall not be our master. This is not to say that when we are under grace sin is no longer sin, but rather when we live under grace the Holy Spirit guides our inclinations away from presumptuous sins to the light of the way of the Lord.
May we not curse Adam for our woes but rather thank God for saving us through the blood of his Son and for the gift of the Holy Spirit who can helps us to live in God’s presence according to his purpose.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for enabling God’s grace to overflow to us. Holy Spirit help us to live under grace as required. Amen.
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
