“Live Life In The Will Of The Lord!”
“You who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ You do not even know what will happen tomorrow… Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins”(Jam.4:11-17).
It is human nature to talk about the future and plan for it as if we own our lives. But those who have chosen the Lord as their portion should know better. The future is not ours to determine.
God holds the future in his hands. If our plans for today and tomorrow should have any meaning, we should always depend on his decisions for our lives.
When we have this awareness, we would consciously submit ourselves to the Lord because he “opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Pride is the reason for arrogance, boastfulness and bragging.
Submission to the Lord puts a limitation to pride and arrogance. As children of God we should learn to live in loving relationship with each other. Such harmonious life together means we become one another’s keeper; correcting and rebuking wrongdoing so as to build each other.
But when we think we are superior to others, we would rather judge than correct or rebuke error. And the moment we assume the role of judges, we are assuming a superior status, which causes us to boast and brag.
We are all inferior under the Law, for “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.”
My friend, “resist the devil” and “draw near to God” by being humble to the Lord and submitting yourself to him. Do not boast and brag about your plans; rather, always prefix your plans with, “If it is the Lord’s will…” Do not judge others. Do not hesitate to do the good you know you ought to do!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit prod me to always depend on the Lord’s will and to do the good I know I ought to do. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
