“Live As A Child Of Light To Shine The Light Of Christ!”
“The cardinal sins result not from fundamental evil but from fundamental goodness running out of control, from human love that is confused and frightened and not trusting enough of love.” In each one of us, there is a “‘dominant fault,’ the cardinal sin that is strongest in our personality.” ( Andrew M. Greeley, 1981).
It is in this sense that in most cases sin is not the work of the devil as we commonly contend. For example, anger is an acceptable expression of emotion. But when you let the sun go down while you are still angry, you have given the devil the opportunity to use it as a leverage for causing confusion.
Every negativity in us that is weeded out must be replaced with something useful. Those who are used to falsehood should not only do away with it, but replace it by speaking truthfully.
The thief must not only stop stealing, but should replace it by doing something useful so as to have something to share with those in need.
In conversation unwholesome talk is not welcome, rather only speak “what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Do not only “get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger…along every form of malice,” but replace it by being “kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Life is not about you without others. Life is about you for the sake of others. Whatever action you take which cares less about what happens to others is to “grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Eph.4:25-32).
My friend, can you identify that fundamental goodness in you which is running out of control? Fight to keep it in control so that the devil does not take it and use it as a leverage! Is there human love in you which is confused and frightened and not trusting enough of love? Make every effort to redirect it and let it on course! Let love lead as you empty yourself of self-love! Live as a child of light to shine the light of Christ in you!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit guide me so that my words and actions should purposefully build others up. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
