Lord, Amidst The Rising Flood, Shut Me In The Ark!”
Noah the flood survivor was laterly known as a “preacher of righteousness” (II Pt.2:5). Surely Noah could not have just turned a blind eye to the evil around him. He surely preached to people to desist from evil. When he was building the ark – which probably took quite some time – the people must have been asking to know what it was intended for. He must have been telling them that God was angry with the prevailing evil and wickedness. They probably laughed and mocked at him; and called him names.
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God”(Gen.6:9). This is not to say he didn’t have flaws; but he was righteous and also obedient to God. When God asked him to build the ark he “did everything just as God commanded him.”
Upon completion the Lord said to him, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family…” He obeyed without hesitation. “Then the Lord shut him in” (Gen.7:1-16).
All through the story nothing is said about the righteousness of Noah’s wife, his three sons and wives, meaning they were saved through the righteousness of Noah. This is an indication of the elasticity of God’s grace. This grace was extended to the birds and land creatures. As for the water creatures, God had no problem with them.
How did Noah collect all the different species of animals and birds; considering that he spent time constructing the ark?
God does not allow us to do the work alone. He often does it for us. After all we are only tools in his hands. God told Noah that all the animals “will come to you to be kept alive”(Gen.6:20). Later on “Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark”(7:15). They came meaning God was in control, not Noah!
Lessons:
In a perverted world where evil seems to be a way of life, only righteousness and obedience to God can save the remnants. When the world is drowning in the flood of dissaster the Lord is there telling you, “Go into the ark” of security with your family. Christ Jesus is the ark of security! No matter the calamities raging around, nothing can happen to those whom the Lord has shut in the ark. Whatever may be happening, do not panic; just have a closer walk with God!
Prayer of the week: Father Almighty usher us into the ark of security and shut us in until the rising flood purges the world of evil. Amen!
Have a blessed day and welcome to a new working week. Peace be with you!
