“Light Of God Shine In My Heart!”
The ministry can be very discouraging and frustrating; and there is great temptation to want to quit. Maybe it is for this reason that one has to sign a ten-year bond upon graduation from the seminary. The ten-year bond is so that in case you want to leave you must have paid back in service the money that was spent on your training.
However, those who fight and run away live to fight again another day. The called braves the odds and keep on keeping on under any condition.
Paul reminds us, “Therefore since we have such a hope, we are very bold”(II Cor.3:12). And in the next chapter he states, “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways, we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”
Unfortunately “the god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. These days in Africa, the present day heartland of Christianity, there is a lot of resistance and opposition to the gospel. It is not so much about the existence of myriads of churches, it is so much about what is happenning!
Look at the continuous bloodshed and dictatorship on the continent! Where we do not preach ourselves, we preach our denominations and Christ is often a footnote, or at best an appendix.
God who spoke light to darkness has “made his light to shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ” (II Cor.4:1-6). If the continent must develop and upgrade to a moral higher ground, then it is important that we do not use deception nor distort the word of God to suit our agendas!
Weekend prayer: Father keep shining your light in my heart so that I preach Christ and not myself for I am only a servant.
Have a blessed weekend! Amen!
