“…Let Us Walk In The Light Of The Lord!”
There is a crusade towards the reconstruction of war torn anglophone regions. While the well intentioned plan is underway amidst a debate concerning its necessity, gun battles are intensifying and innocent civilians continue to die. Some caught in crossfures and others intentionally randomly executed. Vandalism, looting, kidnappings and ransom demands are on the rise. Are these still part of the deconstruction processes before reconstruction?
When God called Jeremiah for a reconstruction mission he told Jeremiah, “…today I appoint you over nations, and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant” (Jer.1:10). Yes, reconstruction presupposes that there has been a deconstruction of what had been constructed.
Without the deconstruction of warped minds, physical reconstruction cannot be attainable.
The corruption, frustration, anger and deepseated hatred are deeply engraved in the minds! They are so deep that without deconstructing it, any reconstruction of physical structures would just be another misdirection of funds into private coffers!
We need the light of the gospel first. John’s gospel introduces Jesus stating, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” Regrettably “the light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not understood it” (Jn.1:4-5).
The light that we find is just the little that permeates through the maze of darkness which has engulfed us. That is the reason why the killings and all the other vices are still going on unabated.
Genuine reconstruction is possible when that moment of realization dawns on us and “we beat our swords into plowshares and our spears into prunning hooks.” When we do not take up guns against each other and when we no longer train children for violence and brutality.
When our darkness understands this light the people will heed the call, “come…let us walk in the light of the Lord” (Is.2:1-5). When we free ourselves out of the darkness and come to the light of the Lord we can then truly reconstruct. Such a reconstruction according to JNK Mugambi should start from the individual, then the Church and society at large.
My friend, bottomline, “let us walk in the light of the Lord ” which is Christ Jesus!
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit convict my warped mind so that I can walk in the light of the Lord. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week and have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
