“Let Others See Your Good Deeds And Praise Your Father In Heaven!”
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Mtt.5:13-16).
When a meal is seasoned with right quantity of salt, the flavour is enjoyable; although not all kinds of dishes need to be seasoned with salt to make it savoury. However, the salt does not benefit from its sweetening of food.
In the same way the light produced by a lamp placed on a lamp stand does not benefit the lamp. “It gives light to everyone in the house” except itself. Comparing a Christian to the light produced by a lamp, Jesus says, “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
If our lights should shine in the same way like the light from the lamp on a lamp stand it means our work is neither for profit nor self-seeking. Our lights should be our good works which radiates as light. Such good works are testimonies that we are different because we know and practice the love of God on others.
We shouldn’t do those good works because we want praise-singers to hail us by singing our praises. Rather when the good works are seen by men, they should praise God our Father who is in heaven.
On the other hand we should rid ourselves of works of darkness. We are like a city on a hill, we are like lamp on a stand so we can’t hide. That is why we must keep working hard to get rid of our sinful natures so that the light in us does not become darkness.
My friend, be the light by shunning evil! Do all the good you can today by all the means you have, working heartily as serving the Lord and not man! In all you do acknowledge that you are just a tool in the farmer’s hand. Let the farmer – Your Father in heaven – receive all the praise and glory!
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me to do good works that will attract men to praise my Father in heaven. Amen!
