“Let God Alone Be Your Witness!”
There is no better way of rounding up the week’s teaching on being sent than by using Paul’s autobiographical message to the believers in Thessalonica. He writes: “You know, brothers, that our visit to you was not a failure. We had previously suffered and been insulted in Philippi…but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in spite of strong oppisition. For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed – God is our witness. We were not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone else…we were gentle with you, like a mother caring for her little children. We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.”(I Th.2:1-8).
My friend, any happy receipient of the goodnews is ready to share it with others for free. Let me become personal and claim Paul’s words for myself. To you our social media congregation we can confidently voice it like Paul, that despite our human flailings, our motives have been pure! We have not tried to trick you. We speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God…we never use flattery, we do not put on a mask to cover our greed and we are not looking for praises from men. We are just delighted to share the word of God with you; and not only that, but our resources as well through the gadgets and internet charges we incure.
So to say, the culmination of the gospel is love and genuine fellowship. At the end of the day our true actions in daily practical life will reveal our motives. Motive is the sum total of interiorized self and reveals who and what we trully are! As it is, motive is like pregnancy that must eventually be exposed to public view! Even when it is still hidden, “God is our witness!”
Prayer: Search me Lord and if there is any evil motive in me, please uproot so that I may be genuine in word and deed as I proclaim your gospel of love in Christ Jesus.
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
