“Leave It With The LORD!”(Is.40:12-17).
Dear LORD, I step out today in the confidence of what I knew yesterday, that my tomorrow will be better than today. And today is that tomorrow of yesterday.
It is not ascertained whether it was Socrates or Aristotle who said, “The more you know, the more you know that you don’t know.” Both of them were great men of wisdom and have remained a source of reference. Though revered for their wisdom, the statement is an acknowledgement of the limitation of human knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
We who accept that there is an unmoved Mover, the One who created, but is not created accept in faith that he is the Being beyond which no other exist; he is the Source of who and what we are and he alone has determined what we ought to become.
We are finite, he is infinite. We are mortals. He is immortal. We are visible. He is invisible. We are fallible. He is infallible. We are imperfect. He is perfect.
The finite can in no way have a full understanding of the infinite. A mortal being cannot have full comprehension of the immortal nor can the fallible know for certain the nature of infallibility! For now what we know, we know only in part, “But when the perfect comes, the imperfect disappears…Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known”(I Cor.13:10&12).
We may argue that the Holy Spirit leads us into all truths. If it were so, Jesus himself would not have admitted that there are somethings that are known only by his Father alone(Mt.24:36).
My friend, the realisation of our ignorance and limitation should humble us to accept our lot, whatever it be. God has set eternity in our hearts, yet we “cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end” (Ecl.3:11).
We did not decide on the day of our birth, and we have no control over the day of our death.
Since the future is in God’s hand, our fretting about it is meaningless. In times of distress and uncertainty, faith, hope, and trust in an unfailing LORD should be the anchor that keeps our ship steadfastly at bay; safe from the consuming torrents of the angry sea.
We should stand on the promises of God, which cannot fail!
When Israel was at a low moment of their history and existence, the LORD spoke through Isaiah posing rhetorical questions as a means of comfort. These rhetorical questions were intended “to persuade the people to trust in the LORD, who has the ability to deliver, strengthen and restore his people.” They are meant for us too!
The hen told its chick’s, “As you see me scattering the soil foraging for food, I never for once look behind, because what is past is past. I focus my search on what lies ahead because I know better things lie ahead.”
Let us stand firm on the promises of God as we humble ourselves in submissive obedience to his commands.
Prayer: LORD, God Almighty, we submit ourselves to your will through Jesus Christ, your son, our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
