“Lord Hear My Prayer And Let My Cry Come Up To You!”
In some African cultures where a lot of pounding is done, it is believed that God was living just above humankind. Unfortunately when pounding the people kept hitting him with the pestle, so he left and went up to the sky.
Still in Africa and among the oil cooking cultures, God was close by, but too much smoke caused him to transit upward.
In the biblical story of alienation humankind was first living with God. Sin caused God to send them away from his presence, whereas in the African stories sin caused God to move away.
Whether God moved away or he sent humanity away, he is still concerned for their welfare. Sin may keep them away but God is still their Father. He may withhold his tenderness and compassion, but his steadfast love cannot allow him to be angry forever.
God is our Redeemer from of old. As individuals let us look inward to purge ourselves of the sins which cling so closely to us and God will do awesome things for us. Even when our biological parents abandon us, God remains our Refuge and Shelter!(Is.63:15-64:3). It is noble to prepare to receive the Redeemer with contrite and repentant hearts!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me so that I do not harden my heart against the law of the Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
