“Keep Walking In The Light!”
On the sixth day of creation God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness…”(Gen.1:26). Over the years and even in New Testament(NT) times some people raise the question, “Who is the us and our that God was addressing?”
John gives the answer, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men”(Jn.1:1-4).
These verses were intended not only to explain that Christ was there in the beginning and that the “us and our” referred to him. They were intended to show the place of Christ as the Logos of Greek philosophy. The Greek logos (word) did not only refer to the spoken word but also of the unspoken word, the word that is still in the mind – call it Reason. In Greek philosophy the Word was a rational principle governing all things.
But for the Jews it referred to the “word” of God by which he created the world and governs it.
The creation of anything happened when “God said, ‘Let there be…'” So to say, creation happened by God’s spoken word.
John states, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” Life is one of the great concepts of John’s gospel. He uses the word more than any NT writer. Life is the gift of Christ to humanity. “I give them eternal life…”(Jn.10:28). Jesus is life itself and the gateway to God. “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”(Jn.14:6).
Jesus Christ is also the light from whom comes spiritual illumination. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”(Jn.8:12).
What this means is that at creation God had us in mind. Christ has come to shine his light in a world of darkness. Unfortunately, “The light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not understood it”(Jn.1:5).
However, those who understand it follow Christ in true obedience to his will and commands. They have life in abundance because they adhere to the light that is Christ.
Therefore, if you want to live life in its fullness and to have eternal life, keep walking in the light of God who is Christ.
Prayer of the week: Lord Jesus Christ keep me in your light that I may have life in its fullness. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
