“Keep It Good And Leave It Good!”
Another major element of the creation story is the commentary, “And God saw that it was good.” This statement was made on all the days except the second day. This is not to say that what was made on the second day was not good.
On the last day “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.”
A question which may worry some of us is “If God saw that everything he created was good, where did bad come from?” Some will say this is a question of theodicy. But we can still conclude that good becomes bad according to use or how it is applied. Darkness for example gives opportunity for rest and sleep, but under cover of darkness bad deeds are done. In the same way water is very essential for daily existence, but people can drown in water and that makes it bad.
God is Goodness and everything he does is good. The freewill that he has given us is a mark of his continuous goodness because he doesn’t want to impose on us. However, such freedom as we have, if misused becomes abuse (bad).
Another lesson we learn from the creation story is the orderliness of God. It is only when he had seperated the land from the waters, that he caused the land to “produce vegetation, seed-bearing plants and trees on the land…” (Gen.1:9-13). Imagine the chaos if the reverse should have been the case! What do you do with vegetation, sead-bearing plants and trees without land? From God’s well outlined pattern in creation we learn to be systematic and not to put the cart before the horse.
God is a God of orderliness and he expects such orderliness from his creatures. He is Goodness, that is why he saw all that he had made to be very good. Use whatever God has placed at your disposal the way he wants it to be used and it will remain good, but if you misuse it or abuse its use, it becomes (useless) bad. You have received it good, make it good; keep it good and leave it good!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to use my freewill in enhancing the good that God saw in the things that he has placed at my disposal. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
