“Just Be You!”
The philosopher said, “Man, know thyself!” Do you know yourself? Do you live the real you?
My grand daughter often force me to watch cartoons with her. The other day we were watching Mr Bean. Mr. Bean hid at a certain corner to do something naughty. He thought there was nobody around, but when he became more observant he saw a gentleman reclining on an easy chair nearby. Mr Bean adjusted himself but was bent on doing what he wanted to do. Each time the man turned towards his direction, he comported himself and pretended to be doing something else. Guess what? At the end of the day it turned out the gentleman was blind. Mr Bean was annoyed with himself for wasting time trying to camouflage as he comported before a blindman.
How often do you try to keep up appearances when inwardly a freedom is nagging you, urging you to be yourself, but you keep being artificial just to impress and succumb to norms which you do not believe in? Then through a sudden outburst you reveal who you really are! As Jesus put it, “out of the overflow of his heart the mouth speaks.” You are what you are and can’t be anything else; no matter the disguise and comportments to portray a different you! So just be you!
My friend, I am not standing on a higher pedestal where I then condemn you; far from it I am worst than you. Jesus is reminding us today, “Do not call me, ‘Lord, Lord’ if you do not do what I say.” On the contrary if you hear his words put them into practice (Lk.6:43-49).
The power of the word from the Word is in doing what it says! Therefore suit your words and beliefs with action.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me not to be a sign post directing others to where I will not go myself.
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
