“In The Name Of The Lord You Are An Overcomer!”
David was trained in fighting, but not in a conventional way. As a shepherd he had killed both lions and bears with his bare hands. For David, Goliath “the uncircumcised Philistine” was just like those wild animals he had killed. Goliath had defied the army of the Lord and deserved to die like a lion or bear.
Both king Saul and Goliath considered that killing an enemy in war depended upon the use of conventional weapons of war, age and experience. And maybe one ought to have been trained in warfare according to the books.
Little David the shepherd boy knew differently. His staff, five smooth stones, his pouch and sling were seemingly ordinary weapons but David knew that he had the strongest weapon ever against Goliath.
In his words, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Again he told Goliath, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies Israel, whom you have defied…” And that is how David the little shepherd boy won the war for Israel because “when the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran” (I Sam.17:31-51).
Saul and his army had forgotten that “the battle is the Lord’s!” Back in the days when exodus Israel were scared of the pursuing Egyptian army, Moses assured them, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Ex.14:14).
My friend, the Lord is always there to fight for those who trust in him. He is the one who brings you victory. God needs you to cooperate with him and do your part of the physical action, but victory belongs to him.
Commit your plans to the Lord and you shall be an overcomer! Don’t be selfish in what you want the Lord to do for you. David won the war for all Israel, not for personal gains. If it is for the good of the people, the Lord will do it for you! However, when you rub the king’s head with oil, your legs will shine.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ I depend on you to achieve that which will serve the needs of humanity. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
