“Imitate The Humility Of Christ!”
A Mungaka proverb says “give the meat to the child to share and see what portion he’ll give to you.” It is said that the father’s of old chose their successors through sharing.
As the children took their turns to share the meat during meals, parents were taking note of those who shared and took the last portion.
The person who shares something and takes the first portion is a greedy, mean and covetous person. Meanwhile the person who shares and takes the last portion is one who can gather people. Such a person is selfless, putting others first before self.
This falls in line with Paul’s admonishment to us christians: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
My friend, it’s not always about you; it is about others as well. The command to love your neighbour as yourself means that you should recognise the worth of others. We are all created in the image of God. It is said that you actually know it is daybreak when you look at the face of the other person and see the image of God in him or her.
The encouragement you have found in being united with Christ, the comfort you have found from his love, the fellowship you have found with the Spirit and the tenderness and compassion you have been exposed to, teaches you to be likeminded, having the same love and being one in spirit and purpose.
If it is good for you, then it is good for others! And if it is bad for you, then it is bad for others as well! It is the same colour of blood flowing through the veins of all humanity! Nobody has the image of God more than another!
Jesus Christ remains our model, therefore, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ”(Phi. 2:1-5) who humbled himself and became obedient to death.
Prayer: Humble me Lord so that I can see the image of God in everybody. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
