“…I Wait For God My Saviour!” (Mi.7:7-17).
Life cannot always treat us fairly as we expect. In the journey of life we often get to a point where we face an unclimbable precipice, meanwhile the bridge on which we crossed the ravine behind us has been swept away by a storm.
In the midst of a morally decadent society of his day, prophet Micah wrote, “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me…”
When hope in the Lord is lost, then all is lost, but when hope in the Lord is alive, then nothing is lost. Therefore always keep hope in the Lord alive!
We are in next Sunday before Advent, leading to Christmas when we commemorate the birth of the Saviour whom Micah spoke about. The Christmas feast is mere commemoration. Jesus Christ is already here and is always here.
Like the Jews of Jesus’ day we may be so blinded in our self-righteousness that we fail to recognise him. In ignorance we say to him, “…If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus still responds, “I did tell you, but you did not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life…”(Jn.10:22-30).
The sheep of the Lord are those who have been cleansed by his blood. Whoever watches for the Lord in hope and waits for him should be confident, but penitent. Such confidence calls for adequate preparation. It requires tidying up, not of the environment but the tidying up of one’s heart (penitence).
The confident of heart who is penitent can say, “Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. Because I have sinned against him, I will bear the Lord’s wrath, until he pleads my case and establishes my right. He will bring me out into the light; I will see his righteousness…”
No matter how gloomy the present may seem, restoration is on the way to the hopeful penitent. Don’t stop praying to the Lord because the power of restoration rests with him alone. Those who mocked you asking, “Where is the Lord your God?” will see what the Lord has done for you and they will be covered with shame. There is a new dawn for the hopeful; so keep the flames of hope glowing!
Sunday prayer: Father thank you for the assurance of a better tomorrow through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
