“I Have Found An Everlasting Treasure In Jesus!”
The gospel message first arrived Ireland when it was a Celtic nation. St Patrick is said to have been the messenger of the word to the Irish. It is said that the king in council asked his councilors what they thought of the new religion? The chief priest of their local gods was the first person to reply “I am the priest of our gods. I pray for your prosperities and successes etc. If it was true that the gods bless people I should have been the first person to benefit from them, but I have benefited nothing serving the gods. Let us better follow the new teaching.” The matter was sealed and from that day Christianity became a national religion and the old gods were thrown away.
Acceptance of the goodnews is based on the fact that people find in it something better than what they first had.
Jesus says “the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought the field.” It is also like “a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value he went away and sold everything he had and bought it” (Mtt.13:44-46).
This does not mean that the kingdom of heaven(God) is some kind of commodity that can be sold or bought by the highest bidder! Far from it, it is that when you have a clearer knowledge of Jesus Christ nothing else would be of essence. You would give up on all those things which preoccupy you and focus on the things of God. You would trust and obey God and cause his kingdom reign to be practically possible in the world.
My friend, finding the kingdom and buying it with all you have is to surrender yourself in propagating kingdom virtues. It means in your little corner you should spend yourself in enhancing the brotherhood of humanity; expending yourself in loving actions and obeying God in word, thought and deed! God’s best possible world (kingdom of heaven) is realisable through your little deeds of love at your little corner. A world without strife or rancour! There is a hidden treasure in Jesus Christ and he is that everlasting treasure. Go for it and nothing else would matter!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ in you I have found my treasure. May I not depart again from your presence. Amen!
