“Hold On To What You First Heard And Believed To Receive The Spirit!”(Gal.3:1-5).
While in discussion with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, the risen Lord Jesus Christ told them,“How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?(Lk.24:25-26).
Jesus did not consider the disciples to be foolish as in lacking good judgment, but rather that they were not able to use their power of perception to discern the truth of prophecy.
It is in the same way that Paul called the Galatians, “Foolish Galatians!” The foolish Galatians then, just like today’s foolish believers are not mentally deficient. They fail to use their power of perception.
When the Spirit has fully made Christ known to us, we should not allow ourselves to be bewitched by the judaizers who force us down the old paths.
God has not given us the Spirit and is working miracles among us because we have observed the law. He has done so because we believe what we heard.
We should not be so foolish to begin with the Spirit and turn and begin to try to attain our goal by human effort. We received the Spirit by believing what we heard or what we read from the Holy Book about the Christ.
Dear friend, today as we round up the week’s reflections on the workings of the Spirit since Pentecost, let us not behave like the Galatians. Let us not give in to the judaizers who want to bewitch us and derail us from what we first believed!
God in Christ is at work in us through the Spirit. Let us hold fast to what we believe and not try to attain our goal by man’s effort.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me to hold fast to the gospel I heard and believed so that my suffering would not be in vain. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
