“Heir By Adoption!”(Eph.3:1-6).
Dear LORD, as I begin a new day, my joy is that you have made me to belong!
(My father became Fochang III by adoption. His mother was the daughter of Fochang I. As Fochang IV, I’ve faced some challenges from those who think I do not belong. I tell them that I belong. My father was adopted, but I was born as a product of that adoption. I belong, whatever some people think).
Jonah was a model Jew who considered that Yahweh was the personal God of the Jews only. The author of that book set out to counter that kind of Jewish particularism and exclusionism.
At one point, Jesus was tempted to go along with the myopic reasoning of his people. He told the Syro-phoenician woman that it is not good to give the children’s food to the dogs. The woman replied that even the dogs benefit from the crumbs that fall from the table. Jesus saw this as an act of faith that was not rivalled in Israel(Mt.15:21-28). Tribalism and racism are real everywhere!
However, Paul, an apostle to the Gentiles, emphasises that “through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.”
In Christ, the barrier has been broken. In Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek(Gal.3:28). Christ is without borders! Christ is for those who believe in him as the Son of God and their personal Lord and Saviour.
We Gentiles are heirs by adoption! Unfortunately, out of selfish ambition, greed, and avarice, we often behave as if we are Jews and others are Gentiles. When we propagate a false doctrine of “we and them,” we become enemies of the gospel of Christ. The gospel is all-inclusive. Christ says he will not cast out anyone who comes to him(Jn.6:37).
Jesus Christ, as the final revelation of God, belongs to those who are anywhere in the world and believe in Christ(Jn.3:16).
My friend, don’t allow anyone to derail you by saying that as an African, you have been brainwashed to believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. In God’s plan of salvation, you were included, and so be it!
Christ came for you! Claim him as your own! Yesterday, he told us, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” And because he has overcome the world, you who believe in him is also an overcomer! Hallelujah!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for finding me worthy to be in your salvation plan. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Happy New Year!
