“God’s Kindness Transcends Human Hate!”
Old feud continued insensibly over the generations have destroyed many young lives from those families involved in such meaningless hates!
The story that may quickly come to mind is Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” However in many African villages such feud exist, either between villages or between families.
Whatever happened between parents must not be transferred to children. To transfer the quarells between families down to their offspring is like hating somebody and recruiting others to hate that person. In Cameroonian street language we would say, “Tiko noh fit drink, then Kumba drunk!”
King David demonstrated a gentlemanly disposition to the bloodline of king Saul. Saul hated David with a passion. On several occasions he wanted to kill David but the Lord was with David.
When David became king he would have asked for all Saul’s bloodline to be rounded up and executed or incacerated in jail. He did not do that! He chose the path of reconciliation, restitution and restoration.
Besides, he also remembered that even though Saul hated him, Saul’s heir apparent Jonathan had defended him David with his own life. As the saying goes, “Kindness begets kindness.”
Reflecting on these things, king David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
To offer such kindness as David intended to, one must be in tandem with God through the Holy Spirit. It is God’s kindness, not man’s decision. Man is evil by nature and would love vengeance. David asked Ziba a servant in Saul’s household, “Is there no one still alive from the household of Saul to whom I CAN SHOW GOD’S KINDNESS?”
It turned out Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth was alive, though lame on both feet. For the sake of Jonathan David restored to Mephibosheth all the land that belonged to Saul his grandfather. He caused Mephibosheth to eat daily at his royal table as if he was one of his sons (II Sam. 9:1-11). Such is the kindness of God made manifest through man!
My friend, never transfer the hate against your adversary to his bloodline. Show kindness to them for they were never the reason for the actions of their ancestors. Summarily, if you are a child of God show kindness even to the families of those who hate(d) you! After all it is God’s kindness, not yours! God’s rain and sunshine benefits both good and evil people; believers and nonbelievers alike!
Prayer: Lord work in me through the Holy Spirit so that I can show your kindness without discrimination. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
