“God’s Better Plan!”(Jer.29:11-14a).
I learned this lesson from one senior minister (May he rest in peace). He said when a child has a fever, you do not give him sugar to suck because sugar is sweet. You give the child quinine. You tell the child that quinine is bitter but will cure the fever.
When the bitter side of life happens to us, it doesn’t mean God is unfair or that his burning rage against us has not cooled down. Some things have to get worse before it becomes better; because if it doesn’t get worse, we probably wouldn’t know when it gets better.
God is such a loving Father that no matter how much his anger burns against us for our misdemeanours, it is momentary. He does not dangle our sins in front of our eyes to remind us of how pained and hurt he is.
God has already recognised our weaknesses, how unpredictable and weak minded we are. He knows that we are quite susceptible. Our susceptibility is the reason for Christ because God’s plan for us is the best.
The reassuring message that God through prophet Jeremiah gave to exiled Israel has relevance for any of us in an exile-like situation. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,'”
Yes, my friend, no matter what, God’s plan for you is about a bright and positive future. If in the past he didn’t listen to your cry for help, he is now assuring you that if you call on him and come and pray to him, he will listen to you. Seek him with all your heart, and you will find him. All is well because in Christ, God has made you one of the chosen.
Yes, in Christ Jesus God executed the better plan he had for us(Heb.11:40)
Sunday prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the reassurance of a better future for us through Christ our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
