“God Is Just: He Will Pay Back…!”(II Thes.1:3-10).
Everything may “seemingly” be under control in the land of my birth and residence, but the truth of the matter is that things are way out of control. Proof of this is that divisional, sub divisional and council administrations are all operating from the region’s capital and not from their fiefs.
If the churches in the villages, suburban and even the urban areas are still functioning then they deserve the praise of Paul: “We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.”
The circumstances may not be the same like that of Thessalonica, but it is all about the gospel. The quest for justice and fairness in unjust operational systems is the goodnews of Jesus Christ. The first scripture that Jesus read in public was in regard to the fulfilment of justice and the eradication of social inequalities (Lk.4:18-19).
My friend, no matter what befalls, let your faith keep growing
more and more. Bear in mind these timely words of comfort and assurance: “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled…”
God’s wrath will descend on “those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus…” Whoever squeezes life out of anyone, whoever kidnaps, torture, maim anybody, and whoever wantonly destroys the properties of others does not know God and does not obey the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Nevertheless, rather than wait to see such people punished by God, we have a christian obligation to pray for their salvation as well. Our Lord taught us that lesson of praying for our persecutors. While on the cross, he prayed for his tormentors: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”(Lk.23:34).
My friend, as your faith keeps growing, do not despair. Know that God is just.
Weekend prayer: God of justice, may we see your justice in the land of the living. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
