“God Has Put His Spirit In You; Be Careful To Keep His Laws!”
Back in the days of the then Presbyterian Theological College(PTC), Kumba our Principal Rev. Dr. Elangwe used to tell us on closing day, “Wherever you are to spend the holiday, please keep the flag of PTC flying high.”
No father would be happy with a child who robs the family name in mud; especially in a foreign land. A wicked father may disinherit such a child, but a loving father would only see how he can do damage control and keep both the child and the family reputation. After all, it has been said that when a child defecates on your lap you neither throw the child away nor cut off your leg. You rather wipe the faeces on the child and your lap and keep the child.
That’s who our Father in heaven is. Israel had profaned God’s name wherever they went, but he promised, “I will show the holiness of my great name, which…you have profaned among them.”
If God was to deal with us only when we have been put right with him, then heaven will remain empty. He is a God of grace and this grace was manifested in the person of Jesus Christ. Through Christ he has sprinkled us with clean water to cleanse ud from all impurities. He has given us new hearts and put a new spirit in us while removing the heart of stone. And lastly he says, “I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws…”(Ez.36:22-28).
My friend, pray that the Spirit of God remains in you so that you can always wipe the faeces and continue loving the child. Above all, let his Spirit in you enable you to be careful to keep his laws.
Weekend prayer: Father thank you that for your name’s sake you have poured out your grace on me and filled me with your Spirit so that I should be careful to keep your laws. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
