“God Has Called You To Live In Peace!”
In a community where the gospel is preached for the first time, the tendency is either the wife or husband may be converted while the spouse is not. This may pose a marital problem that may lead to divorce; ironically perpetuated by the converted spouse who may not want to live with an unbeliever.
This is not farfetched because presently christian girls and boys fall in deep love with unbelievers. Fellow Christians may easily advise that it is not good to yoke yourself with an unbeliever.
Paul’s advise is that it is wrong for a believing spouse to opt for divorce because the partner is not a believer as long as the unbeliever agrees for them to be together.
The unbelieving husband or wife “has been sanctified through the believing” spouse.
In the case where the unbelieving spouse decides to leave, he or she should be allowed to go. Any unbeliever is a potential believer. It is possible that the unbelieving husband or wife will become a believer through the husband or wife. The believing spouse must become an evangelist to the unbelieving spouse!
This is important because “God has called us to live in peace” (I Cor.7:12-16).
We must always take precaution that even in the formulation of doctrines of marriage our goal should be to bring people to Christ through the gospel of love. We must always remember that “God has called us to live in peace” begining from the marital home because the family is the nucleus of society!
Prayer: Lord, may the peace and love we crave for in the world begin in our homes with our spouses and children. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
