“Give Away Love; It Will Come Right Back To You!”
Have you noticed that “fire is a good master but a bad servant?” There is some bad inherent in every good. Even the word of God, as good as it is can become bad in the hands of a manipulator with a warped conscience.
Writing to Timothy Paul buttressed this fact by stating, “We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.”
The context of Paul’s words were against false teachers at Ephesus who were teaching false doctrines which promoted “controversies rather than God’s work – which is in faith.” Timothy was asked to stay in Ephesus to stop such false teachers.
The goal of any God’s “command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” Once we deviate from these, we engage in meaningless talk.
This is so glaring in our generation more than ever before. Many “want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm” (I Tim.1:3-8). When attention is drawn to this weakness we hear responses like, “The apostles were ordinary fishermen and tax collectors with little or no education.”
These fishermen were sound theologians who studied under the “Grand Master himself” for three solid years. Jesus is the focal point of theology. He is theology itself. To study under him for three years as they did is to gain theological knowledge that cannot be offered by Harvard.
The correction should not also be to downplay anyone or make anybody look inferior. The goal of any correction must be love! “The river meandered because it walked alone!”
But what is love? Someone has suggested that the acronym for LOVE is: Leave Off Various Evils. Love is the totality of God’s commandments. God himself is love. He loved the world so much, such that he sacrificed his only begotten Son. Love is the greatest and first commandment of God: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Dt.6:5). The second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself” (Lev.19:18). According to Jesus “all the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments” (Mtt.22:34-40).
But we may still raise the question: “How do I love my neighbour as myself?” The answer is summarised in the golden rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” When we calibrate at this level of love the kingdom of God will be fully realised.
The world is the way it is; we are the way we are or better still, you are the way you are because, “You attract what you radiate.” “You reap what you sow!” In other words, “Love is something that you give it away and it comes right back to you.”
So my friend, give out love and see how it pours back to you!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit ensure that the goal of any command I make should be love, from a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
