“Follow The Example Of The Master!”
The context of our text today is Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. Knowing that Judas was about to betray him, he nonetheless still went ahead and washed Judas’ feet. What is your attitude towards a known enemy? Of course we would easily say we are not Jesus. I feel guilty because recently I deliberately blocked some people from being my Facebook friends because from all indications if they had their way they “will” crack me like a stone on which they have stubbed their feet. There is no need pretending with people who want you “…down down down…!” My people will say, “eat with such people with a long spoon” so that they cannot have opportunity to bite off your finger or arm.
Jesus however pricks my deadened conscience when after having washed the disciples’ feet he said, “…Now that I, your Lord and Teacher have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you do as I have done for you”(Jn.13:1-15).
This is conscience-pricking that Jesus washed the feet of Judas even when he knew Judas was soon to betray him. Well, Jesus knew Judas’ action was part of God’s plan because according to John soon after the washing Jesus told Judas, “What you are about to do, do quickly”(13:27).
Jeesus did all he did to show “the full extent of his love.” Let us be tolerant of those who take hurtful decisions and destructive actions against us because everything is in God’s plan. Welcome back to a new working week.
Prayer of the week: Lord Jesus Christ help me to follow your example of being tolerant of those who seek my life. I know all things work for ny good because I trust in you. Amen!
Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
