“Father Let Me Recognise Your Voice When You Speak To Me!”
Hannah fulfilled her vow to God by dedicating her son Samuel to serve the Lord as a response to answered prayer. Samuel entered the service of the Lord under the tutelage of Eli. Serving God was not a guarantee that God had called him.
We note that “in those days the word of the Lord was rare, there was not many visions…” This is a contrast to today’s ministry where visions and prophecies are so commonplace but very bizzare visions and prophecies.
Samuel was in the service of the Lord but he “did not yet know the Lord. The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” No wonder that twice when the Lord called him he rushed but to his master Eli. It dawned on Eli that it was the Lord calling on Samuel so he instructed him on what response to give when called again.
Eli knew that God was displeased with his sons because of their disregard for holy things. He knew that Samuel had found favour with the Lord over against his sons, but he still gave meaningful advise to Samuel.
When the Lord called again Samuel responded as advised by Eli, “Speak for your servant is listening.” The Lord told Samuel what he was about to do which was to make the ears of those who heard it tingle.
Knowing that the Lord had spoken to Samuel, Eli asked Samuel to recount everything to him. Samuel did just that. When Eli heard all the Lord had told Samuel against his sons and family, he simply said, “He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes.” What a great mentor! What a faithful servant of the Lord!
As for Samuel, “the Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel…recognised that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord…”(I Sam.3:1-20).
When God calls, he remains with you but you must also ensure that none of his words fall to the ground. This way those you are called to serve recognise and attest to it that you are a prophet of the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, in times like these speak to me for your servant is listening and let me recognise when you speak. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
