“Executing Prophetic Assignments!”(Lam.2:13-22).
For a new day, we thank you, Lord.
Our people say, “The fly that had nobody to advise it followed the corpse into the grave.” We can sympathise with such a fly. However, “the fly that refused to listen to advise and follow the corpse into the grave” has itself to blame.
God does not punish sinfulness without a prior warning to the sinner. He sends a prophet to tell the people what he will do if they continue in their evil ways.
If the prophet fails in his mission and the people are punished for their sins, their blood will be on the prophet’s head. But if the prophet executes his mission and the sinner is adamant, the sinner will be punished(Ez.3:18-19).
Prophet’s are watchmen over the city(Is.62:6b & Ez.3:17). The people themselves should give the prophet no rest. They should pester him to know what message is coming from the LORD to them(Is.62:6b-7).
The poet of Lamentations blames the prophets who prophesied deception instead of the LORD’S call to repentance.
“The visions of your prophet’s were false and worthless; they did not expose your sin to ward off your captivity. The oracles they gave you were false and misleading.”
When prophets fail in their responsibilities, the LORD does what he had planned; he fulfils his word, which he had decreed long ago.
Dear friend, the message from the LORD through his prophet’s in times like this is simple: “Repent or perish!”(Lk.13:5).
Do not by this think that you will blame the prophets because they did not warn you.“The LORD has shown you O man, what is good. He requires you “to act justly and love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”(Mi.6:8).
Let us turn to the LORD and be saved through Christ. Grace is mercy shown on the penitent with the hope that the penitent remains in the presence of the LORD running away from sin since in Christ s/he has become a new creation.
Prayer: LORD in your mercy, hear our prayers, and do not let our enemies gloat over our downfall. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
